Marissa Merrill Photography 2.0 – Life Update

HEY FRIENDS!

Welcome to my little corner of the internet. So much has changed since the last photography website (yes, that is how I’ve been measuring the days lately). I’m so excited to share it all with you guys through this new and improved platform. I have been working my butt off to get this site up and running before 2019. As you can see, I hit that deadline by a solid 10 hours, so go me.

I’m sure many of you are wondering why I would go through the strenuous, confusing, and stressful process of rebuilding my entire photography website, and if you’re not asking yourself that, you probably should be. But to understand this insane task I have taken on you must first understand what has happened in my life in the past 3 months.

So for starters, I got engaged to my best friend, my dads best employee (sorry to any of his other employees who read this, I’m extremely biased), the absolute love of my life. He lives in Tyler, Texas and plans to be here for at least the next two years. For those of you who don’t know, I graduated from TCU with a degree in Graphic Design and was working at a design agency in Fort Worth. I loved the environment at that agency and the people were incredible. But despite the amazing community, I wasn’t happy sitting at a desk all day. Consequently, when I moved to Tyler, I knew I wasn’t going to be able to find a graphic design job.

The original plan was for me to stay in Fort Worth until John and I got married and then move to Tyler and figure out all the details. But then life threw some curveballs my way.

Around the same time that I got engaged I found out that a family member was having health issues. It was such a scary time for my family, and I hated being so far away. I found myself driving to Tyler every weekend for about a month and it was getting really hard on me. (For those of you wondering, God has answered all of our prayers. We are so so thankful to say that this family member is doing great and has gotten past the scary season of their health issues.)

At the beginning of October, my little photography business somehow picked up out of nowhere. With working a full time job, having multiple photography sessions a week, and driving to East Texas every weekend, I was exhausted. So one thing lead to another and at the end of October I ended up moving back to Tyler to be with my now fiancé and pursue photography full time. WOOHOO!!!!

Being a full time photographer has been so many things. It’s been so exciting, scary, intimidating, fun, hard, and so many other adjectives. In the past two months I have had to learn how to become by own boss and manage my time. I have had to learn how to own a business and pay myself. It’s been really hard, but also such a dream come true, and I am so stinking happy.

Now fast forward a month, and I’m looking at my photography website and feeling so incredibly let down by what I was seeing. My brandless, busy, waste of solid internet space needed some serious upgrading. So I got a wordpress account and started building. It was headache after headache, one late night after another, but here you are, so that must mean it’s finally live! ** I’m probably still happy dancing as you read this.**

This photography website is my “rebrand” per-say, but I think it’s more fun to call it Marissa Merrill Photography 2.0. Now that I have all the time in the world for blog posts, creative shoots, and so many other things that can be put on this site, that’s what i’m going to do! I have a crud ton of content lined up to share with you guys. I can’t wait for you see all the goodies I have in store. I am going to start posting weekly blog posts, some of my pasts shoots, some photography tips for all the baby photographers out there, and even some random life updates for y’all!

It’s gonna be one heck of a ride. I can’t wait for you guys to see me attempt to run a full time business on my own. EEKKK. Prayers much appreciated.

So go check out the site, and then give me some feedback over on my Instagram page! I cant wait to hear what y’all think!
